After 22 years the streets of Elkhart,Indiana were once again filled with kart racing in 2017. One of the many highlights of the event was the largest class of the weekend the Honda 80cc shifter class. With 21 entries the ABC Excavating Honda 80cc shifter kart race featured duel feature events between Saturday and Sunday. USAC karting and ABC Excavating and Landscaping are proud to announce the return of the ABC Excavating 80cc Duels in Elkhart.
"We're proud to feature this class again in 2018. The Honda 80cc Shifter class has been growing in the Midwest in recent years, especially in street racing," comments USAC Karting Director Mike Burrell. "It’s a great class for the drivers and the fans alike. This class continues to grow as does the competition. Last year both features provided competitive racing for the fans. We’re very fortunate to have a partnership with ABC Excavating for this event."
Just one of the many highlights of the Thor Industries Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix, the Honda 80cc Shifter class featured a duel feature format. On Saturday it saw TB Kart Indy driver Devon Smith-Harden win on Saturday with Zach Shiff taking the win again for TB Kart Indy on Sunday. An added twist is that the top six finishers from Saturdays feature event are inverted. Bristol Indiana native Troy Allard finished 2nd and 5th respectively. The Allard family are no strangers to kart racing and have been a big part of Karting in Indiana for decades.
"We at ABC Excavating are proud to once again come on board along with Thor Industries to support the Elkhart Riverwalk GP. It’s a great family experience and an experience for racers as well. We believe that it helps showcase what Kart racing is about and what Elkhart Indiana is all about," comments Troy Allard. "We would like to thank USAC Karting for organizing a safe, fun, and challenging race course. We also want to thank the many sponsors that along with ABC Excavating and Thor Industries that help to put on such a great event."
The Thor Industries Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix is one the legendary events in kart racing throughout the history of the sport. Combined with great community support and a scenic race course filled with fans, this is a must attend event. Starting on Friday with events for the kids, Saturday features the mayor’s race and celebrity events mixed in with USAC Karting’s qualifying races and concert on Saturday night, with the feature races on Sunday.
