It has been revealed this morning within SKUSA's quarterly video series "TomVersation" -- which interviews SKUSA Principle Tom Kutscher -- that they intend to run a winter series in the state of Florida in 2018. We had hinted at the possibility of this series back in April when it was revealed to us that the domain name skusawintertour.com had been registered and it belonged to the SKUSA offices. It was described as a four round series, with two rounds being ran on two weekends split between the second weekend in January and the second weekend in February.
"The first thing we're going to do, of course, is we're going into Florida," Kutscher explained. "It's been asked for five years. It just didn't happen and then it was a good opportunity." He went on to mention how the tracks in Florida had a clause in their contracts about not allowing SKUSA events at their facilities. It was unclear to us if this was a contract with the previous Florida Winter Tour owners, MAXSpeed, or if it was the tracks coming together to make this contract between themselves.
The new series will include a one round drop in their points system and only be ran in January and February, which Kutcscher described as the busiest racing months of the winter as some South American countries get back to their own championships in March. SKUSA's flagship series, Pro Tour, will presumably start in the month of March which segues nicely from the winter series.
The full interview is below. You can find the Florida winter series remarks starting at 17:30 mark.
SKUSA SpringNationals Discussion with Tom Kutscher
As promised, here is the long awaited interview with SKUSA, IAME USA WEST, and Evinco Tires principal Tom Kutscher. The polarizing figure lays it all out and gives a candid look at the next 6 months of national #kart racing. We realize this video will leave (in some cases) more questions than answers. We will do our best to elaborate on specifics as future details become available. We welcome all constructive input. Have a question you feel that wasn't addressed? Please comment below and we'll repeat the process at New Castle Motorsports Park for the #skusaprotour SummerNationals. #kartracing #gokart #racing #motorsportsPosted by SuperKarts!
