CKR Never Gives Up: Hard work in a difficult European Race!
Race report from the 2020 FIA Karting European Championship Round 1 for KZ, KZ2, and Academy Trophy.
With a day less than usual, there were not many sessions to find the performance in time for us.
During the first sessions on Thursday we were very close to the best times, but in the last session, we realized to have a 4 tenths gap from the top adversaries.
Even with all the hard work we didn't find a speed improvement in the 3 sessions left before qualifying.
Michele Fontana, Enrico Bernardotto and Justin Van Der Schaft started in 5th and 9th row respectively for the qualifying heats.
They fought fiercely to come up getting the speed to reach in some heats P7, P9 and P12.
Starting in the back at a top-level championship means you are exposed to Murphy's Law. Murphy had fun with us when the fuel leakage resulted in an underweight disqualification, penalties caused by bumper drops, contact incidents, etc.
Despite all this, we incredibly managed to have Bernardotto and Fontana qualified for the Final.
Starting from the last rows both drivers made a great coming up!
Fontana fiercely overtook 14 places to finish P22.
Bernardotto did P26 + 5 seconds penalty with a very solid pace reducing the gap lap after lap getting always closer to the group Fontana was fighting with.
Even less fortunate was Van Der Schaft who in the free sessions reached a good speed of 48,0 but couldn't make it to the Final.
Thanks to the whole team for maintaining the drive to always improve and face the difficulties constructively!!!
Great hard work Michele Zampieri, Giorgio Stivanello, drivers and their mechanics!
