The twenty second annual Superkarts! USA SuperNationals returned to the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, USA this week. With over five hundred entries from more than sixty countries, the largest event of the year was certainly one for the books. Bringing the highest level of competition and heightened risk of the temporary circuit, DR Racing Kart North America would see great success on the event, capturing four top ten finishing positions and two podiums.

The greatest success of the weekend came from DR Racing Kart srl factory driver Maximilian Paul (Germany) in the international KZ category. The young driver competes in the KZ2 category in Europe, but this weekend proved he has a place among the top in the world. With two third place heat finishes and one twelfth, Paul started the main event from the fourth grid position. After losing positions on the initial start, he made his way back through the pack into the top five. A red flag incident on track occurred, and Paul would use the opportunity of regrouping to gain position on the restart. A five way battle for the lead in the final laps would see Maximilian come home in third, a great result for both DR Racing Kart North America and DRT Racing / Modena Engines.

Canadian native and Mazda Road to Indy driver, Antonio Serravalle, also competed in the KZ category alongside California Pro Kart champion Keawn Tandon. Serravalle and Keawn would both have traffic issues in qualifying, causing lost time. Both pilots would start further back in the thirty eight kart field for all three heats. Fighting their way back through the heats, the two would finish P16 and P23 respectively.

Australian native, Scott Saunders, made his national debut with DR Racing Kart North America in the X30 Masters class at the Rio. A four times national champion with CRG, Scott found himself at home with the DR brand, consistently among the fastest on track throughout the week. After an incident in qualifying, Scott had ground to make up throughout the heats. With good, consistent driving, Scott was able to take the evo3 S97 chassis to an eleventh place grid position for the final. Competing with such a high level of competition among the 70+ drivers in the category, Scott would find himself on the final spot of the podium at the final flag of the race. Unfortunately, a penalty for blocking on the last turn would demote him to an official sixth place finish. Joining Saunders in the masters category, Scott Cherry would unfortunately have an on track incident on Friday, forcing the driver to retire for the remainder of the event.

Always one of the best categories in the states, the pro shifter group saw four DR Racing Kart drivers compete in Las Vegas. Team drivers Joey Wimsett, Collin Daley, Josh Lane, and Tyler Guilbeault all showed great pace throughout the event. Of the fifty class entries, DR Racing Kart would occupy two places inside the top ten, with Joey Wimsett and Collin Daley finishing P7 and P10 in Sunday's finals. The veteran, Josh Lane, gained eight positions in the  final to come home with fifteenth position. Tyler Guilbeault unfortunately was run over in the opening corners of the main, causing damage to the kart that would cause him to retire early.

BRT team driver Aaron Bromberek competed in two categories this year, with good pace in both KAsr and X30sr. Unfortunately, a series of on track incidents would cause Aaron to retire early in X30, not making the main event on Super Sunday. The same fate befell NSR Driver Development pilot Alex Delemo lll in the mini swift category. In KAsr, Aaron moved forward fourteen positions to take home a great P20 in the very competitive new category.

In his return to the DRT Racing program, former Supernats winner Chris Jennings fell right back into place with the team. After showing great pace all week, Chris would fall victim to a moved barrier on the track, causing him to retire early from the main event.

An event reliant on both luck and pace, the week in Las Vegas always comes with ups and downs. DR Racing Kart North America is very pleased with the results accomplished this year and look forward to turning their attention to both the SKUSA and ROK Florida winter series.
