Podium finish for Tyler Maxson at Superkarts! USA SpringNationals

Crisscrossing his way across the globe, American Tyler Maxson returned from Europe and descended on the PKRA facility in Glendale, Arizona this past weekend for the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SpringNationals. Competing under the CRG Nordam program and under the watchful eye of mechanic Tony Tesoro, the Georgia resident secured a second place podium result including a victory in Sunday afternoon's prefinal event.

"It was a good, solid weekend for us in Phoenix," explained Maxson. "The weather was brutal and it was exhausting just to try and keep cool. The CRG team did a great job and the support that I have around me this season is second to none. I can't thank my mechanic Tony Tesoro enough for his hard work as well as Eddie Tinini, Euan Jeffery, CRG Nordam and Daniel Woltjer from Woltjer Racing Engines for all of their assistance this year."

In a weekend that saw triple digit temperatures, Maxson showed speed and persistence in his hunt for a race win. Pacing the field in the final practice session on Friday afternoon, the CRG pilot could only muster a sixth place effort in Saturday morning's qualifying session. Improving to fourth in the prefinal, Maxson would again advance forward in the main event, crossing the line in the second position and garnering a solid podium result for him and the CRG line of products.

Starting Sunday where he left off Saturday, Tyler Maxson qualified his Woltjer Racing Engines powered CRG in the second position. Taking the green for the prefinal from the outside of the front row, Maxson shot to the front of the field and never looked back. Securing the prefinal victory and the preferred position for the start of the main event, Maxson's first SKUSA victory of 2018 was in sight.

Taking the lead early in the main event, Maxson was unable to hang on as he was passed just before the halfway point. Looking to take advantage of a red flag situation that stopped the field, it allowed him another opportunity to attack for the lead but all was for not, as Maxson crossed the stripe second on track in what looked to be his second podium result of the weekend.

Maxson added, "Following the race I was given a penalty for jumping the start and classified sixth overall. I am not sure how that is possible if I am the pole sitter, but it gives me motivation for the next SKUSA event. Big congratulations to Arias Deukmedjian on his double victory this weekend. He was fast all weekend and I feel that our package was the only one in the X30 Junior field that could challenge him for the win."

Tyler Maxson will enjoy one weekend off before returning to Europe for his next event. Competing at the popular PFI Circuit for the second round of the OKJ European Championship, Maxson hopes to carry the momentum from Phoenix to Europe as he rejoins the CRG Factory Racing Team.
