Wins and podiums push Birel ART North America to the top of the results at ROK Fest East
Busy schedule as 2020 karting season restarts and team hits track for the SKUSA Pro Tour this weekend.
With nearly a three-month hiatus due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, BirelART North America is back with a jam-packed schedule. Recently competing at the ROK Cup USA ROK Fest East program, the larger program is back on track this weekend at the opening round of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. Searching for race wins and podiums, the Canadian operation has traveled from their home base in Trois-Rivers, Quebec, Canada to Charlotte, North Carolina to New Castle, Indiana over the past two weeks.
Thomas Nepveu led the way for the BirelART contingent in North Carolina as he scored the ROK Senior pole position and turned that into a main event win this past Sunday. Named the ROK Fest East Champion, Nepveu earned a ticket for the ROK Cup Superfinal in Italy later this year. Fellow ROK Senior competitor Filip Niemkiewicz battled in the top-ten all weekend long claiming a best fifth place result in the second of four heat races but settled for eleventh in the final running.
Three more podium results across three separate racing classes, rounding out the results during the ROK Fest East event as Caleb Gafrarar claimed three heat races wins and a second-place result in the final after qualifying fifth in the Mini ROK division. Nathan Stewart added a pole position and two heat race wins in ROK Master Shifter before claiming the second step of the podium in the main event while fellow BirelART teammate Daniel Dibos hovered around the top-five all race long finishing fifth in the weekend’s finale.
Jake French secured the ROK Shifter pole position as Daniel Formal was second and Michael Stevenson was fifth, putting three BirelART branded competitors in the top-five in qualifying. Between those three and Vincenzo Sarracino, the quartet scored ten top-five results throughout the four heat races before French and Sarracino would claim second and third place finishes in the weekend’s main event.
“The ROK Cup USA staff always puts on some of the best events,†expressed Dominic Labrecque. “We are looking forward to ROK Fest West and ROK the RIO but before them, we have a pair of weekends at New Castle Motorsports Park for Superkarts! USA competition.â€
