Miguel Mier Leads Team Crosslink in SKUSA Winter Series Opener
Traveling from their home base in Texas to sunny Florida, Team Crosslink brought five drivers to the opening weekend of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Winter Series. Competing in the senior level classes, the Exprit Kart branded team walked away with a pair of top-five finishes including a second-place podium result in X30 Masters with veteran driver Miguel Mier.
"The competition at SKUSA is tough and our drivers put up a good fight," explained Sean Owens. "A couple of our junior drivers leveled up to X30 Senior and made their new class debut at the AMR Motorplex and did a good job. There is a lot that we need to work on, but this is a good start to the year, especially for Miguel who will look to battle for the X30 Masters championship at the final event of the series in a few weeks' time."
Qualifying fourth on Saturday, Mier pushed his Exprit kart to the limit in each and every session throughout the day, finishing third in the prefinal, and then gained another position in the main event to stand on the podium. Showing his consistency throughout the weekend, Mier went third in Sunday's wheel-to-wheel action and ended his weekend with a fourth place effort in the main event.
Four drivers competed in the X30 Senior category as rookies Ryan Shehan and Dawson Svoboda joined Reilly Cann and Brendan Baker in the forty-plus kart field. Showing speed at times, Shehan hovered around the top ten scoring a weekend best ninth place finish in Saturday's prefinal. Svoboda showed top-15 pace and finished 16th and 17th in his two prefinals but would run out of racing luck in the main events. Reilly Cann finished tenth in Sunday's split A and B prefinals and gained five positions in the day's main event to finish 15th while Baker had a weekend to forget and will shift his focus to his next on track competition.
Team Crosslink will take no time off as they will travel about 100 miles north to compete in the opening round of the ROK Cup USA Florida Winter Tour. Taking place at the Isle Casino in Pompano Beach, Florida, Team Crosslink will enter five competitors in the first Vortex ROK event of the year. Look for Alex Sanfield to fly the Team Crosslink colors in KA100 Junior and ROK Junior as he is joined by Chase Gardner in the ROK Junior category. Ryan Shehan will be back for his second consecutive weekend of competition as he and Ethan Ho will do battle in ROK Senior. Stay tuned to the Team Crosslink social media pages for up to date news, information, photos and results from this weekend.
The 2020 season is now underway, and Team Crosslink will continue to fight for race wins and podium results across the country.
